HerdCon will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Marshall University Memorial Student Center (primary location) and the Drinko Library (secondary location) on campus from 10am until 6pm.
This is Marshall University’s first venture into the pop culture, comic, and entertainment industry. This event will benefit both the community and local businesses by bringing new visitors to Huntington and raising the profile of Marshall University. The show will focus on four major points: Cosplay (portraying fictional characters in both costume and mannerisms), Scholarly Panels (informational sessions hosted by Marshall University faculty), Gaming (computer, pen and paper, board game, and live action roleplay), as well as local and regional businesses. Marshall students, faculty, staff, alumni, community college students, and children under the age of 18 will have free admission.
The School of Art & Design at Marshall kicks off the Art Crawl season with a display of work by students and recent alumni in the first Nomad Gallery* of the 2016 Art Crawl season. This month, the Nomad Gallery will be at 901 4th Avenue (the former “Simply Whisk” kitchen store). Students look forward to talking with visitors from 5-7 pm on Friday, May 27.
We will be featuring work from MU student’s and recent alumni, David Adkins, Allen Armel, Dane Blankenship, Grayson Collins, Megan Curry, Nathan Fouchs, Madeline Grant, Ashley Haycraft, Felicia Kavanas, Lydia Lake, and Ashley Taylor.
*The 2016 Art Crawl season will include a Nomad Gallery each month. As the name suggests, a Nomad Gallery is not necessarily in a fixed location, encourages a spirit of exploration, and is a cooperative effort between artists/designers and real estate owners/developers. A Nomad Gallery serves the community because it provides additional space for artists to exhibit their work and brings foot traffic into properties that are available for lease or purchase.
